Dear parishioners,
I would much prefer having a face-to-face conversation regarding this topic, but the circumstances surrounding the COVID‑19 pandemic have taken everyone into uncharted territory in their daily lives, and that includes pastors. I’ve never had to consider how to evangelize a parish that doesn’t gather on Sunday to celebrate the Eucharist, because I’ve never had to face anything like it (other than low attendance at Sunday Mass because of a snowstorm). However, knowing that we face at least three weeks of not gathering as a faith community (or possibly more) will most definitely have spiritual ramifications for all of us, but the direst ramification for our faith community at this particular moment is financial.
Because a large percentage of parishioners contribute to the parish via an offertory envelope, not gathering on Sunday means that the parish will not receive its usual financial support until our weekend Masses can resume. Therefore, I am asking that if you use an offertory envelope to contribute to the parish that you either bring it to or mail it to the parish office. Maybe under the present circumstances it would be better for you to have your contribution taken automatically from your bank account. If so, when you pull up the St. Mary website (www.stmarygr.org), look for the Giving button which will take you to our parish’s online giving site operated by WeShare.
I know that these are difficult times for everyone, but please remember that not having Mass each weekend doesn’t mean that the parish’s financial needs have been curtailed or eliminated. Like other enterprises, all the bills continue to arrive in the mail, the employees still need to be paid, and everything needs to be kept in working order for the day when we will be able to worship together again.
Please remember to take care of your parish despite the mammoth “social distancing” we are facing currently. Also, please take care of yourself and your family. And, don’t hesitate to contact Fr. Preferiría tener una conversación cara a cara con respecto a este tópico, pero las circunstancias alrededor de la pandemia COVID-19, nos ha llevado a todos a terrenos desconocidos en nuestra vida diaria, y esto incluye a los pastores. Nunca había considerado cómo evangelizar a una parroquia que no se reúne el domingo para celebrar la Eucaristía, porque nunca había tenido que enfrentar algo como esto (fuera de poca asistencia en la Misa dominical debido a una tormenta de nieve). Sin embargo, sabiendo que enfrentamos al menos tres semanas en que no podremos reunirnos como una comunidad de fe (o posiblemente más), definitivamente tendrá algunos efectos para todos, pero el efecto más extremo para nuestra comunidad de fe, en este momento en particular, es financiero.
Ya que un gran porcentaje de feligreses contribuyen a la parroquia a través del sobre de ofertorio, al no reunirnos el domingo, significa que la parroquia no recibirá apoyo financiero hasta el fin de semana en que las Misas vuelvan a celebrarse. Sé que estos son tiempos difíciles para todos, pero por favor, recuerden que el no tener Misa cada fin de semana, no significa que las necesidades financieras de la parroquia van a estar reducidas o eliminadas. Como cualquier organización, todas las cuentas seguirán llegando en el correo, los empleados necesitan su sueldo, y todo necesita mantenerse funcionando para el día cuando podamos volver a la iglesia para orar juntos.
Por favor recuerden cuidar de su iglesia a pesar de la enorme “distancia social” que actualmente estamos enfrentando. También, por favor ustedes cuídense y cuiden a su familia. No duden de llamar al Padre Beto o a mí, para hacernos saber cuáles son sus necesidades y cómo podríamos ayudar, mientras que esta locura continua. (por ejemplo; ¿están buscando más contenido en línea? ¿más apoyo?, ¿más dirección?, ¿más recursos?, ¿más maneras de estar conectados digitalmente con otros feligreses?).
