Sacraments of Service / Mission / Vocation:

Holy Orders

Holy orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. Through this sacrament men are consecrated to be deacons, priests and bishops.

Vocation to Priesthood

Those with potential interest in this sacrament are encouraged to contact Fr. Ron Hutchinson, (rhutchinson@dioceseofgrandrapids.org) at tel. 616.475.1190.

Please visit the Diocese of Grand Rapids Vocations web page.

Vocation to Diaconate

Jesus’ invitation to some to guide and bless the community of the Church is heard by those willing to follow Jesus in shepherding the flock. These people are called by the Church to priesthood. Following that call they invite the people of God by preaching and sanctifying.

There are also those who are called as deacons to help the Bishop and priests in the work of teaching and sanctifying by enhancing the Church’s mission of charity and justice.

The Diocese of Grand Rapids is not accepting vocations to the permanent diaconate at this time.

Non-Sacramental Vocations

Religious Orders

Men and women who are called to the religious life are sometimes drawn to religious orders of sisters, brother and priests. For a list of many religious orders and how to contact them, please visit www.grpriests.org/Pages/Other_Sites_Visit.aspx.
